Deja-vu?

For the second year in a row Attack of the Team has been eliminated from the playoffs in the semi-finals after dropping Game 1 and tying Game 2. After looking completely lost in the series-opener, the Attack dug themselves another hole by going down 2-0 early in this one but battled back late to keep it interesting. Still, finding the back of the net with an empty net twice proved to be too much to ask sending Team Sleazy to the finals.

What went wrong?

The Attack led the division in goals for with 61 and equally held the best goals against with 37 - both by good margins. When it came down to the games that matter those numbers got flipped around only managing to find the back of the net three times and allowing 8 past Barber. Penalties also played a factor with the Attack serving 22 crucial minutes in the box in the semis and allowing a handful of power play goals against.

You can also look at who didn't play. The Attack defense lost a lot of size with Eddie Smith and Taylor Ison missing from both games - Ison having suffered a broken ankle and torn ATFL in the last game of the regular season. Kosciuch and Pospisil also couldn't make the last game forcing some players to play out of position in the all-important Game 2.

Attack of the Team now has to look for a back door into the Provincials. The 2019 qualifier is tentatively scheduled for August 18-19 in the usual single-game elimination format.
